Anna's First Basketball game

Today Anna had her first basketball game. She had missed 2/3 of the practices due to being sick and I had never been to a practice of hers yet so I really had no clue what to expect. To our surprise she is the shortest on the team.... and Anna is tall for her age. And she is the only one without an older sibling playing basketball. For her first game, she did great.

I can already tell how much these 6 girls are going to learn by the end of the season. The girls are already pretty good players for the beginning of the season in Kindergarten; I was really impressed by her team. When they aren't in the game learning with the help of the ref, they are sitting on the sidelines with their coaches who are talking to them about what is happening and what they need to work on. It was really cool seeing them improve just in a 45 minute game!!!

Here's the run down of the game....

Anna's team was bigger and more athletic then the other team and if I would have kept score they probably would have won 20-8. But that's not the important part :)

During warm ups Ann was really good at doing exactly what the coach said. I think this is the part that is really going to help her improve this year. It was so cute to watch her squat so low in an attempt to jump high to score a basket; all her teammates were scoring and she wasn't even hitting rim. But that didn't stp Anna from smiling over at us. Then she shot the ball 3 times during the games; the first was an air ball and then the next two she actually hit the rim for the first time ever! It was so exciting!!! I would have fallen out of my chair had she scored :)

She is a really good defender... you tell her who to gaurd and she's right by that number. But the problem was that most of the game she thought she was on defense..... I just kept thinking it's ok, "defense wins games" :)

She did a good job dribbling down the court when the ball was thrown into her. I was actually impressed by her dribbling when walking because I haven't really seen her do it.

Our Anna Banana smiled the entire time, would look at us and act goofy and just looked like she was having a great time.

At the end of the game I asked how she iked playing basketball and she said, "it was better then I ever thought it would be. I want to play again tomorrow." Lucky for her she has another game tomorrow :)

Who knows what is to become of this little monkey and basketball. For now I just love watching her enthusiasm in learning to love the game like her mama did growing up. It was so fun to watch!

Oh and Abby was busy being photographer most of the time... 188 pictures of her fingers, 36 of MyMya and 12 of Daddy/Grammy/Mommy/Ashley.
