Reading Nook

Oh how I love books (and love emptying the shelf!) Especially Moo Baa Laa Laa Laa, My Daddy/Mommy and I and Opposites. Mommy and daddy have read to me every day and night (since I was in the belly) and I love to help turn pages. Lately I have been a little more interested in eating the books then reading... Oops!

Happy 8 months old

Well we are a couple days late on this one... it happens :)

Happy 8 months old to me!!!

Here is a recap of some of the things I have been up to this month!

* I have my two front bottom teeth. I am always putting stuff in my mouth so maybe the next ones are coming!!!
* I have been sleeping much better. Sleeping anywhere from 9-11 hours with only one or NO wakings! This makes mommy REALLY happy! Except for the fact that I am an early riser.....
* I have been taking my naps in my swing because mommy is trying to get me to nap longer then 20 minutes at a time. It has worked and I am taking two naps over and hour and sometimes a shorter third one. She says we are going to start napping in the crib very soon- BOOOOO!
* I like doing "arms up" and "so big" but I do not do it on command. I pick and choose when I will respond (I'm a baby people, not a puppet!)
* I am a side sleeper at night. Mommy will lay me down on my side and I will immediately roll to my right side.
* I love twirling and playing with my own hair (or what I have of hair)
* I have started giving people random hugs when I want to show that I love them.
* I drank water from a big girl cup (with mommy's help of course) and I sucked up some water through a straw!!!! I also tried strawberry lemonade and OMG!!!
* When I am on my back and mommy lets me hold onto her thumbs I can pull myself up to a sitting position without any more help then her thumbs. Sometimes I can even pull myself up to stand.... not very often but sometimes :)
* My favorite thing to do with my toys is to have two toys (one in each hand) and bang them together. I get SO excited when this happens! I don't like it however when a toy that I like gets taken away and BOY do I let you know!
* I am becoming good at directions. When mommy says "pat pat pat" I pat toys and when mommy says "give the toy to mommy" I place it in her hands and then get SO excited!!! I also love to give daddy "Fives"
* I do EVERYTHING but crawl. I roll around, turn around in circles on my belly and back, and scoot on my bottom to get every toy. I am not sure if I am into all the work that goes into this crawling gig :) Mommy tried to make me try and I just roll back onto my back!!!
* I tried many new foods: prunes (love them), blueberries, mango, squash, tofu (love it) and strawberries.
* I have a nickname for Peanut... it's "brabrabra" for brother. I sometimes do a "papapapa"
* When I am concentrating on something I stick my tongue out (just like daddy!!)
* I LOVE roughhousing! I love being thrown in the air, tossed around in your arms and bounced up and down on mommy and daddy's bed. I giggle SO HARD!
* My favorite toys this month were the full length mirror, playhouse and blocks. My two favorite places to go are the nearby park for the swing and the grocery store- I LOVE watching all the people and there is SO much to look at!

Our "BLOWOUT"

Friday night I could have sworn I was being filmed for a movie on Lifetime television..... let me set the stage....

25 miles outside of Wichita (on our way to KC) we have a blowout... and I'm not talking about a diaper blowout..... our front passenger tire blows out on the Interstate 10 miles away from the next exit. So we pull over and my handy dandy man goes out and takes a look. After FINALLY locating the spare and the equipment needed to change the tire my hubby is laying belly down on the hot pavement trying to find the jack positioner?!?!? Peanut is in the front seat profusely sweating on his tongue, Anna just realizes she is hungry and has a poopy diaper and I am HOT. Trying not to get mad at the whole situation (I mean we kind of knew the tire was wearing down) I change a diaper, give Peanut water and whip it out to feed Anna real quickly. And minutes later a highway guy pulls over to help my sweaty husband. The KTA worker finished up the tire and escorts us to a highway exit. We felt kind of like the president.

4-1-1...... Is there a Wal-mart with a tire Center (doesn't every lifetime movie seem to depict a Wal-mart?) in El Dorado, Kansas?

Perfect. Life is good. It's Friday at 5. The tire Center won't be crowded. Who takes their car to get worked on on a Friday evening??? Well apparently that's the thing to do in El Dorado. We finally get to Wal-mart (when Rob asked the lady we talked to on the phone directions she kind of laughed at hm- we think no one has ever asked that questions because it's right off the highway!) and find that they have one tire... no wait two tires in our size. PHEW! Sign us up! Then she says- it probably won't be for 2 or more hours.....

Are You kidding???? Ummmm.... what do you do for 2 or more hours with a baby and a dog at a Wal-mart???

Well, I will tell you what we did.

Behind the tire center there was a grassy area BUT it was hilly. So we sat down on the emergency picnic blanket that is always in my trunk. And. We. Sat. In. The. Shade. OF. A. Dumpster.

Don't judge. Yes, a little desperate. Yes, a little WT. But desperate means call for desperate measures. We ate our road trip dinner that we had packed to make the trip to KC shorter (hahaha), fed and played with Anna and listened to Peanut bark at everything.

After 2 hours of waiting with the flies (the dumpster did not have garbage in it- more like tire trash) our car was done. DONE in less time then imagined! YEA! I still think the tire people felt sorry for us and bumped us up in line. We packed up the gang (Anna with one of her first rug burns from falling forehead first onto the blanket) and 3 hours later we arrive in KC.

Looking back I wish I would have taken more pictures of our little picnic area but at the time there wasn't much humor in the situation and plus my camera was in the car!

Total travel time: 6 hours 10 minutes.

Much Love,
Jenny

Two Favorite Toys

I love all my toys BUT my two favorite toys right now are my mommy's old mirror and my learning house. I have so much fun with mommy's old mirror. I like to try and pull myself up so that I am standing I have only done it once without mommy's help), make funny faces, look at myself, look at mommy, make sounds to it and smile at the funny baby girl looking back at me (I think it's me!!) I also have just started giving it kisses- the cold mirror feels SO good up against my gums!!!

See me puckering my lips in two of the pictures... this is really new and I LOVE to make this face :)

And the learning house.... oh so fun! Right now I am obsessed with shutting the window. EVERYTIME mommy opens it, I close it right away; even when she does it when she thinks I am not looking. I also love to open and close the door and turn the light switch off. I can't wait until I can crawl and walk around this thing!

Making Baby Food

My friend, Ashley Jones (we still call her Souders!), got me interested in making baby food when she decided to make it for her son, Cooper. And I am so glad she did!!

Using a book she recommended, 100 Best Baby Food Purees, and the website Baby Food 101, I have managed to make Anna baby food for almost 2 months now. And it hasn't even been that hard!!

The book is great because it helps you get creative on mixing different foods together to give different tastes- I just started this creative approach within the last couple of weeks. I have mostly depended on the website and the website is awesome because it helps me decide which food should be bought organic or conventional and it tells you the appropriate age and how to make it. I occasionally give Anna the store bought baby food but plan on making her baby food for the remaining time she eats it mainly because she LOVES everything I make! And I have fun searching around the area for certain fruits and veges and can't wait to start heading to the Farmer's Market.

I usually make a batch of vegetables every two weeks and freeze them in ice cube trays to be used later on during that month and then two weeks later, I do the same with fruit. My handy dandy food processor does an AMAZING job (I was using a blender before we moved but the blender is MIA so I had to buy something while living in the apartment to use in it's place!)

I have made the following so far....

Fruits
Apples
Pears
Blueberries
Strawberries (she just tried today and LOVES them!)
Peaches
Mango
Cherries (has not tried yet)
Prunes
Banana

Vegetables
Sweet Potatoes
Carrots
Peas
Mashed Red Potatoes
Squash
Avocado
Going to make this week: Asparagus, Spinach and Broccoli

Protein
Tofu

Much Love and Eating,
Jenny

Baseball

Yesterday, mommy, daddy and I went to my FIRST baseball game!

Before we left the apartment daddy was telling me EVERYTHING I needed to know about the game of baseball and let me tell you- he REALLY loves it!

There was so much going on at the Wichita State Shocker Baseball game.... so many people to watch, smells to smell, noises to hear and oh of course watching the game! When something good would happen, people would clap SO loud that at first it startled me but then I really liked it!

We stayed for 2 1/2 hours of the game and left when they were losing 10-2. It was pretty chilly out and by the end of the game I had on two sweatshirts!

Mommy thought it was so funny because she was trying to get pictures of my not looking at the camera, but she didn't fool me. RIGHT when she got that camera out I started "hamming" it up!

Anna
