This is what we do with hand, foot and mouth

Poor Baby Girl

Happy eater even when sick!
Happy playing in the water with no diaper even when sick!
Wrapped up in a towel she got to watch Barney for the first time... she even sat there for 5 minutes :)

Preschool Pictures

Mommy sent us to school over a week ago and completely forgot it was picture day (mostly because we already got pictures taken this fall and she knew she wouldn't order any. But she really did forget!) We were wearing Halloween clothes so these pictures turned out to be Halloween pics!!!!

They turned out very cute even though our hair was probably still wet and in a ponytail from our morning shower :)

Such Cuties!!!

BOO!!!

We got ghosted the other day and the girls were beyond excited to eat their treats AND
they were beyond excited to GHOST some neighbors with Mommy last night!
WE LOVE HALLOWEEN!!!!!

Hand, Foot and Mouth: 2 Mom: 0

Yup. Another culprit.

Today before gymnastics I noticed that Ashley had a new spot on her face by her mouth. So as a precaution (since I don't want to spread this to all our friends) both Anna and Ashley did not go to gymnastics. The day progressed and everything seemed good.

We went to the pediatrician for Abby in the afternoon.  She said it's one of the worst cases she's seen in quite some time- one case was worse this past summer. She gave some pointers that have helped me feel like I am doing something to help my baby instead of sitting and watching her suffer.

1. She told me to start using motrin instead of tylenol to help with the pain and inflammation
2. She prescribed a heavy duty antibiotic cream to help the broken blisters heal
3. She told me that people have said that rubbing Maalox on the bumps help alleviate the pain and itch
4. She also said using oral benedryl can help make her drowsy and sleep at night and may help with the itch
5. Told me to come back if there is any puss/infection or if the spot on her bottom eyelid spreads into the eyelid.
6. She complimented me on how good Abby's blisters are healing. She thought that by the look of her face that her bottom would be much worse. She said we are caring for her perfectly and to keep doing what we are doing with minimal diaper wear and wrapping her in a towel during naps (my mom is a genius for those pointers!!!)

She told me it looks like the spots on face and butt are in the healing process but just starting up on hands and feet. She says Abby is still contagious since new spots are coming in.

I am very glad I went in because I also showed her Ashley's face and she said it very well could be hand, foot and mouth.

So tonight during the Royals game I notice Ashley is being very quite and cuddly so I take her temperature. 100.8 degrees. Great. Then I do a hand, mouth and mouth check and find 3 spots on her feet, one on her hand and the ones by her lips. Confirmed. I am pretty sure another Stilley bites the dust to this disgusting illness. I just hope it's a mild case.

Ashley went to bed in her winter footie pj's wanting to be under the covers (she never sleeps with covers on) and she was still cold. I just hope she sleeps well tonight.

As for Abby, she LOVES the Maalox rubs and I have given her 3 total tonight. She literaly sits like dead weight and lets me rub the Maalox all over her bumps for 20-45 minutes at a time. During the last Maalox rub down she was telling me where to put it (mostly her feet). It feels good to be able to help my baby girl. I just wish I could cure it.

Hand, Foot and Mouth I hate you.

Hand, Foot and Mouth... poor Abby

Somewhere, sometime last week (I blame the child care at my mom's group meeting but it doesn't matter where it happened because I can't fix that) Abby picked up the awful sickness hand, foot and mouth. I had heard of many of my friends kid getting it but they never talked about how horrible it was. I know each case can vary in the extent in which is effects the child but oh my. It's like the new age chickenpox. It is disgusting. And it has been some of the hardest 48 hours in a long, long time.

Abby woke up in the middle of the night Saturday with a fever. Sunday morning she woke up with a horrible diaper rash (or so we thought it was). Mid morning I noticed blisters forming around her mouth and thought this was something more then a diaper rash so we went to an urgent care.

Hand, foot and mouth was the diagnosis. And since it is a virus we have to wait it out. 7-10 days is usually the length of it to run it's course. Well shit.

Sunday night was horrible. Easily the worst night I have had in my life (I need a badge for my super mom cape!) The child was howling in pain. Crying non stop. Itching her body like crazy and making the blisters pop and ooze everywhere. It was intense. It was horrible. It literally looked like Abby was experiencing a painful death. And all I could give her was tylenol = a completely worthless mother. She wanted me to cuddle and hold her throughout the entire night but my exhaustion couldn't stay away. She probably slept 10-15 minutes every hour that night; me even less. The next morning when she woke up she was coated on the butt and face. It was even spreading to her toes and hand.

I call the pediatrician and she says there is nothing they can do beyond what I am currently doing. Just to keep her hydrated and tylenol. I told her that Abby threw up twice Sunday and she said if she throws up again they need to see her. I wanted to ask her, so if this was your kid there is nothing you would do/prescribe to make her feel an ounce better? (Sure lady, nothing you can do.... relieve my kids pain a bit, will you?) Last night Abby throws up at 8 pm (of course after pediatrician hours) and even though she was howling in pain most of the time we were trying to get her to sleep, she did sleep (out of pure exhaustion I am sure) for a 4 hour stretch and then another 3 1/2 hour stretch. During those two stretches (at 3:15 am) we went downstairs to play. She was happily playing in her area, that I blocked in with the couch and my body, and I fell asleep. I wake up around 5 am to see Abby cuddling up against me and sharing the pillow with me. Poor baby. So tired.

So today has been a little better; she is just in so much pain. She keeps bringing me new diapers to change. She keeps scratching at her scab filled face. She keeps looking at me and wondering "why aren't you helping me mommy."

It sucks. It is so sad. I don't know why there isn't a vaccine or something out there to combat/alleviate this.

I wouldn't wish this on anyone. Anyone.

I can't imagine having a chronically ill child.I am so blessed to have 3 healthy little ladies. So blessed.

Here is a picture or two from yesterday. They have even gotten worse and more dense. Sorry about the butt shot but I have to show you the blisters. YUCK.

There are probably over 10 open blisters on her butt. Has to feel like her butt is on fire.... I can't imagine.

Wish us well today at the doctor. Of course I have to wake her from her nap to get her there; no fair.

BBM Playdate

This morning we went to a Halloween play date that another mom was hosting from my Wednesday mom's group. It was a nice time. They had several crafts to do (we made lollipop ghosts and a spider necklace), had many games to play outside and lots of good snacks. The girls slowly warmed up to the other kids as the play date went on and they even made a new friend named Ava.We will have to go to more of these play groups to help my girls get out of their comfort zones a bit and meet new friends because once they do, the LOVE it!

Pumpkin Crayon Melting

The morning after Kate spent the night we decided to do a pumpkin craft.

We had seen a cool way to melt crayon on pumpkins on pinterest so we decided to give it a try. And for the most part it was a success.

The girls unwrapped and broke crayons. I glued it to the pumpkins. They then held a hair dryer over the crayon to get the wax to melt down the sides. It was super easy and the girls LOVED the way they turned out. It was something different for us to do and a fun and easy way to do a pumpkin craft :)

Kate's, Anna's and Ashley's

space "issues"

Every other Wednesday morning from 9:30-11:30 I attend a Mom's group. While I am there Abby attends child care at the church where the group meets. This past Wednesday I went to pick up Abby and had the following conversation with her care taker....

Caretaker: "Does Abby have older siblings?"

Me: "Yes."

Caretaker: "We all thought so (said with a giggle). She has some space "issues" if that is what you can call them."

Me: laughing. "So sorry I didn't warn you about that. Yes, she can get quite a bit vocal about others getting near her and her stuff and be pretty mean sometimes. I promise you we are working on it!"

Caretaker: "No, no, she's wonderful. She just seems like she is the youngest child of at least 3 kids, that's all. She definitely lets other know the parameter of her "space!"

Oh Abby. That a girl :) Standing up for yourself at a young age. Maybe she will be my vocal one?!?!?! :)

This tree is on Fiy-yaaa!

Our tree in our front yard is absolutely gorgeous!

The girls and I have gotten into the habit of singing, "That tree is on Fi-yaaa!" whenever passing a beautiful tree like the one above in our front yard. It is pretty cute when out of nowhere Anna or Ashley burst into this song based on "that girl is on fi-yaaaa!"

I just love how beautiful it is this time of the year.

Mrs. Nelson

When we were in Minnesota Ashley decided to write her teacher a letter and this is what she wrote with my help of spelling.
It says, I Love YOu Mrs Nelson. Ashley.

Then she asked me to email it to her and I did.

Then she wanted me to take a picture of the leaf she found for Mrs. Nelson.
And that too was emailed :)

For as much as this child talk at home and especially for how much she talks about Mrs. Nelson (her and Anna play Mrs. Nelson and Hadley (Mrs. Nelson's daughter) all the time) you would think she would talk to her teacher.

But nope. Little Miss Ashley still won't say more then a word to Mrs Nelson. She is sucha  lil bugger :)

hand in shirt

Yes, her hand is still constantly in my shirt when holding her.

Any pointers???? And no, I am not wearing turtlenecks :)

Sleep Over

This past Wednesday night Kate spent the night. Aunt Anne, Uncle Todd, Grama and Papa decided to go to Game 2 of the World Series (they won!!!) and we told them we'd be happy to have Kate spend the night.

The girls were super excited to spend time with their cousin. Kate walked and went to little lambs choir practice with us, we all made our own cheese english muffin pizzas, played outside, painted our nails Royals blue, watched the Royals game, popped popcorn and had a blast. Mom and Dad let us all stay up to 9 and Kate even slept on on our Grama's cots in our bedroom with us.

We just LOVE sleep overs with Kate :)

First Flower Arrangements

Grama helped the girls make their first flower arrangements with their hand picked flowers from Johnson Farms. I think they did a pretty good job :)

We accidentally brought a little friend home from the farm who now lives in Grama's back yard :)

Vegetable Picking

A couple weeks ago I had purchased a family pass (2 adults and 4 children) for Johnson Farms pumpkin patch. We had gone once for pumpkins and have been wanting to get back to pick veggies with the girls. So on this beautiful 80 degree October afternoon we picked up Grama and headed out to pick!

Abby was asleep for most of it. Anna and Ashley helped Grama pick all sorts of veggies. They hand picked purple cauliflower, broccoli, beets, the biggest cabbage I have ever seen, green beans (which all 4 of my girls life to apparently eat raw!). brussel sprouts, tomatoes and cucumbers. They even pick beautiful flowers!

We had so much fun and all got pretty muddy (the only downside to the trip) and hope to get out there again next week.

both girls LOVED pulling the beets! Anna probably pulled 10 on her own. Yes, we have a lot of HUGE beets to eat :)

They had a blast picking and eating the green beans!!

Even this little one :)

Can't leave the farm without jumping on the orange pillow and seeing a pig race :) So needless to say that;s how we ended out trip to Johnson's!
