Spring Break- Florida Keyes Day 1

We headed into the Keyes first thing in the morning. Our first stop- John Pennekamp State Park for the best snorkeling the Florida Keyes has to offer.

We were so excited to get out there and snorkel but the wind was just too strong and it was too cold. Abby didn't even attempt to go in so I stayed behind. Anna, Ashley and Daddy braved the cold and swam out to the Spanish shipwreck 100 feet out but came back pretty quick freezing. Next time- wet suits!

While there we visited the visitor center to see an aquarium which was pretty cool and even picked up a Pokemon Go Tour which we did a little of.

And the sour sop was finally ready from Robert is Here Fruit Stand and we cut into that for lunch in the park!

As we drove further into the Keyes we decided to stop at a Wild Bird Sanctuary. Home to owls, falcons, hawks, pelicans and lots of other animals who can't survive in the wild, the girls had a fun time seeing these birds up close. Anna especially loved this stop. We stopped at the nearby wild bird hospital and even got to visit with their little green bird- he LOVED Anna!

For dinner we ate an early dinner by the beach at the Island Grill.

It was a perfect place to unwind and enjoy the laid back Keyes.

And then we picked up this heavenly angel.....

BEST key lime pie ever!

We pulled into our house for the next 5 nights before sunset. We played, explored the area (and meet the resident cuckatoo) laid in the hammocks and watched the first sunset.
