Spring Break- Everglade National Park

We left Fort Meyers early Sunday morning to get to the Gulf Valley Visitor Center for a pontoon boat ride of the 10,000 islands of Everglades National Park.

It was a bit chilly one the boat but luckily mommy's tank top warmed them a bit...

We saw manatee in the wild (all of our first time to see these creatures in the wild) and lots of dolphins.

The girls were really interested in manatees so we learned a bit about them after at the Gulf Valley Visitor Center.

Then we set off to to East side of Everglades National Park.

Stopped for a picnic lunch and a hike in the Big Cypress National Preserve.

Got started on our Junior Ranger Program.

Tried to talk to a crow...

Continues through the park on a scenic detour in the direction of Shark Valley Visitor Center. We saw tons of alligators just sitting on the side of the road.

Once we got to the Shark Valley Visitor Center we took a tram ride through the National Park to learn all about the area.

Abby took a nap... we saw baby alligators too

Went up in a tower to view the park

After the tram ride we went on a hunt for a tamale stand. We fell upon an AMAZING tamale and chicken finger dinner at a fruit stand outside of Homestead, FL. Let's just say we were one of the few that spoke English. The tamale was DIVINE! And we found ourselves some sour sop juice- YUM!

Then we ended our day with a good nights sleep at the Travelodge in Florida City, FL. They had hurricane shutters on their windows and it was awesomely pitch black for a long nights sleep. The girls actually slept in past 8 that next morning!
