Royal Celebration

We went. We saw. We conquered. And it was fun :)

36 hours after the Royals won the World Series, there was a parade and rally downtown to celebrate the World Champions!!!!

Blue Valley called off school to celebrate. Daddy took day off work to celebrate; there was no way he was missing the 2015 World Series Parade  and no way was he letting our girls miss out. Back in 1985, when he was 9, they had a World Series Parade and Rob is still upset that his parents didn't let him go (even though he forgave them at the parade this year :))

So we headed out at 8:15, braved rush hour and parade traffic and luckily got there within an hour of leaving (it was taking some people who left 15 minutes after us close to 2 hours to get downtown). We parked at the Kaufman Performing Arts Center (brilliant move Daddy), met the Harper's for breakfast at Denny's to fill our bellies up for a long day ahead. Then we walked to 17th and Grand to watch the parade with 800,000 of our closest friends. With Anna on my shoulders and Abby in the Ergo carrier on my hip, we managed to have a pretty decent spot to see all the players. And yes, it was crazy. But crazy fun. Apparently it is the largest celebration gathering in Missouri's history; estimating anywhere from 800,000- 1 million people there. Amazing. Cell phones weren't working. There was no food. Lucky for us we packed lots of goodies and with Denny's still in our bellies we managed just fine :)

After the parade we tried to walk across the Main street bridge but foot traffic was backed up and no one was moving; if anything people were walking back towards us. So Daddy had another good call ed and we walked all the way to Union Station via Broadway. Long way but Abby had a chance to sleep and the girls scored in the backpack carrier and stroller. And then we hit the rally. The amount of people ther was insane. Never seen anything like it. We found a spot near the top of the LIberty Memorial hill and even though we couldn't hear a thing, it was great to be there amoungst all the excitement. We had a picnic, relzed and the girls drew some art work.

Then after the rally, we let it clear out a bit and we headed into Union Station to use the bathrooms and head back to our car. Along the way we met the W man and got our pictures taken with all the player cut outs. Pretty darn cool :)

Close to 8 hours after arriving, it was time to go home. We attempted to eat downtown but there was just too long of a wait with the rest of the city. With Anna protesting, "I don't want to leave this area!!!!!!" we headed home with relatively few traffic problems unlike every other person I have talked to.

I wouldn't do it again today but man was it cool. The girls even said they had an amazing time :) GO ROYALS!!!!!!

 Best sign ever.....
