Ocean Academy

On our first full day on Caye Caulker, we headed to Ocean Academy to visit the school where the girls had donated $500 of the chair money to (Daddy's company doubled it to $1000).  We were excited to see the school and the kids and didn't really know what to expect. We had gotten in touch with the assistant principal and she gave us a window of time to show up in. I never verified the exact time we'd show up and maybe should have checked in with her a day or two before!

When we got there, it was crazy. The two head administrators were off campus with half the students, a teacher was out sick and there were two community service groups working on stuff around the school. We just stood there for maybe 10 minutes until the principal just happened to come back to campus. We quickly told her what we were visiting for and she had remembered our email. She thanked the girls and told them they were "superstars" to have done what they did for the school. Then she put us in touch with the assistant administrator who had no clue as to what we did and what to do with us.

The girls each assembled a chair (which they left for an island preschool) and then walked around the school to see the classrooms. It was an awkward experience parading our girls around the school but I am glad they got to see where their money went to. They really enjoyed watching the students; especially the ones who killed a poisonous spider!!!

So proud of these monkey with all they did on their work with the chairs!
