Chairs for Children

Months before heading to Belize, I started talking to the girls about life in Belize. Not knowing what we would encounter, I talked with them about how poor the country is; how each person makes an average of $300 US a year. And of course once hearing this, they wanted to do something for the kids. So I told them we could being a shoebox full of stuff to give to the kids. But Anna said that wasn't enough. So I told her that if she wanted to do more, she had to make the money. So after thinking about everything they could make and sell, we decided to sell PVC doll chairs that we had made the previous summer.

So we got out the sewing machine, the girls got some lessons and then they got to sewing. I cut the PVC pipe and the girls would assemble the chairs. All in all, we made and sold over 60 doll chairs. 60 doll chairs are a lot and somedays it was harder for the girls to fulfill orders but for the most time they unselfishly stopped playing and wanted to make the chairs to bring in money for the kids in Belize. It was amazing to see. And through this whole process I know have 3 kids who LOVE to sew; 2 who actually CAN sew almost as well as mommy!!!! After they were made, we sold them for $10 a piece, bringing in a total of $763.

I couldn't believe their success. And to make it even more successful, if we found 501c3 taxable accounts to donate to in Belize, Daddy's company would double our donations to $1526. AMAZING.

After much research we donated $500 to the Ocean Academy High School on Caye Caulker and the remaining $263 to Full Basket Belize which funds the education of the Belizean youth. And Daddy's company doubled it all!

So proud of these girls. Although they may be small, they have made a difference!
