Door County Wisconsin Day 6 (Thursday)
We had been wanting to go back to Bailey's Harbor and walk around the Ridges Sanctuary. We got there early in the day and started our hike. The first part went great and then the misquitos and biting flies were loving us and we weren't really loving them. So we cut our time short there and ended up not going to the children's trail that we so badly wanted to go on. The girls did find some pine cones to bring home to their fairy gardens; good thing we went, ey???
Then we drove across the peninsula to Egg Harbor. We had an early picnic lunch on their water front park and had fun spotting the decorated eggs around town. Then we played on their playground and walked along the pier. The pier had large rocks and kids were fishing off it with their dads/grandpas. It reminded me of all the times we fished at Lake Erie with my dad and grandpa. It was neat to be somewhere similar with my kids. We walked along the pier, climbed on the rocks and sat on the walks and watched the lake life happen around us.
After Egg Harbor we made our way to a fun park to go Gem Mining. The girls got a bucket of dirt and got to sift through it using water and a gem sifter. They found lots of treasures and gems and had so much fun going through the rocks when we got home.
It was a full day so no naps were had. We did head to the Jacksonport water front playground and park when we got home and while Abby slept. And of course had a ball :) The girls LOVED the old fashion teeter totters! And believe it or not, I only had to pull out one splinter the entire vacation :)
For dinner that night we headed to the Old Post Office in Euphraim for the Door County Traditional Fish Boil. We were nervous that the girls would lose it with no naps but they did awesome! We got to see them cook the fish the old fashion way and then we got to eat in the old post office. It was a yummy meal but Anna discovered she really liked white fish and ate most of mine. I settles for her chicken fingers, my potatoes, coleslaw and onions! And then we topped it all off with a piece of cherry pie and a scoop of homemade vanilla ice cream. YUM.
After dinner I wanted to explore the town more because I really liked it. We walked along the water front, hit up another playground and had fun taking pictures with the beautiful flowers (mostly the girls ideas!!)
