RMNP- Gem Lake

Today we set out to conquer the world........

1.8 miles in up a mountain and 1.8 miles out back down Lumpy Ridge Trail..... 3.6 miles completed completely on foot by Anna; around 3.1 completed by Ashley and close to 1 miles completed by Abby. They ROCKED this trail!

On the way up they had to stop and play baby/mommy at every hideout, climb every boulder, stop and take selfies and pictures with their rock cell phone and drink water about every 1000 steps..... but they made it up with minimal complaining (Anna asked to turn back around when we were probably 1/4 of a mile from the top). Half way up we stopped and had a picnic lunch on the side of the mountain overlooking Estes Park; pretty cool.

Cell phone rock selfies in their house!

Did I mention how dirty they got????? DIRTY!

When we got to the lake, there were chipmunks and dragonflies everywhere. People were feeding the chipmunks and that made the girls want to feed them until they found out that feeding wildlife is not allowed in the national parks. A girl even asked them if they wanted to feed them with her and they said no. But even without tempting the chipmunks with food, they all got pretty close to them :) After leaving the girls all said that chipmunks are now one of their favorite animals!!!

While at Gem LAKE the girls put their feet in the lake and played in the sand only to find out that there were leeches in the lake. Ooops.... no big deal, we wiped them off (gross thinking about it, not really that gross in real life) and went on with entertaining ourselves with the chipmunks.

 "Daddy water is freezing... see???"

"Mommy. Daddy. And Chippy was like this...."
 "And this...."
 "And this...."
 "And this TOO!"

Then down, down, down we went...... and down, down, down the girls all fell. It was hot on the way down and we were very low on water. So thirsty and tired we headed down the mountin; both Ashley and Abby fell asleep on our backs on the way down. When we made it to the car we ate snacks and drank lots of water!

Fun time but tiring hike. The girls said a couple hours later that they just LOVE nature! I think Daddy was pretty happy to hear this :)
