Yes, you are thinking the same thing as me. How is Anna old enough to be going to Kindergarten? Or better yet, when did I get old enough the HAVE a Kindergartener? Crazy, huh?
So last Friday we entered her elementary school, Sunset Ridge Elementary. We had been there once before to turn paperwork into the office but when we entered the actual school, Anna looked at me with the biggest eyes and said, "Mommy, we've never been in this far!" And then within seconds she found her name tag, got her picture taken and the cutest little kindergarten girl grabbed my daughters hand and escorted her to where she would spend the next hour or so. Anna didn't turn to say bye (we already exchanged kisses in the parking lot), she didn't even look back. She was off and running.....
I followed them around the corner and to her Kindergarten classroom. Since Anna is one of 13 kids in 1/2 day kindergarten next year, it was neat in that she got to meet and spend Round Up with her actual Kindergarten teacher (Mrs. Z) and be alongside her classmates that she will be with next year (I counted 7 girls!!)
I watched her kindergarten friend drop her off into Mrs. Z's room and Anna found a chair. I stood in the doorway and Anna didn't even look my way. She was 110% ready to be in kindergarten and was taking in the classroom, her desk, her teacher, her new friends.... everything!
A proud (but sad) momma headed back to the library for our informational meeting. About an hour later Anna comes bopping back into the library to sit with us for the last 10 minutes of round up. When she got to me, I asked her how it was and she gave me a quiet (it was awesome) smile followed by, "good." I said, just good???? She gives me the don't embarrass me look here mommy and then told me quietly, "it was awesome." Moments later, pride overcame me and I was a crying nut. Yes, I cried at round up.
After the meeting wrapped up she wanted me to come and see her classroom, so we did. We happened to see her teacher again and got embraced with the warmest hug. When I asked Anna later about her teacher she said, "Mrs Z is old. She has a grandson and her favorite color is green. She's old mommy!"
As we walked out of school to our car she asked, "How many days until Kindergarten?" I told her around 120 and she asked to make a countdown. I love this child :) Anna, I hope you always love school and have so much enthusiasm towards school; just like your mama!
