Abby and Walking
Abby has gotten off to a slow start with walking. She took her first steps 2 weeks ago but since that she really has had no desire to do it again. She actually preferred to walk on her knees.
So I brought the fact that she liked walking on her knees up to our parent as teacher and she shared some information that I am so glad to know :) She told me that she had heard occupational therapists encouraged parents to get their kids off their knees if they do the knee walking so that the child can build the proper muscles to walk on their feet. Our PAT said there was nothing to worry about at this stage because she has just started knee walking but the more we can do to discourage knee walking and encourage walking the better.
And it has been 4 days since seeing our PAT and Abby has made strides in her interest/confidence in walking. She isn't stubbornly insistent on crawling anymore :) She now walks holding onto both hands and even holding onto one hand. And today she took 3-4 steps on her own without me asking her too (she was going from chair to table). And get this- she is now cruising around in her walker which up until a couple days ago she would just sit in or push herself backwards. She is actually cruising!
Oh and by the way she likes to walk sideways. Try this. It's hard. She faces forward and turns her right hip so it is leading and then side steps. Oh my goodness my little darling :)
So I think it's safe to say that Abby will be walking on her own soon. But for now I will enjoy the last days/weeks/months of carrying her or holding her hand for most of the day :)
She's a happy little runner in this thing :)
