On the 2nd day of Spring Break..... A leprechaun visited....

On the second day of Spring Break we had planned to head to the KC St. Patricks Day Parade downtown but decided not to go. We really weren't sure where to go for the most family friendly crowd and plus it was a little on the cold side.

So, wanting to bring St. Patrick's Day to our house we decided to have a little fun with the leprechaun that just happened to visit our house.

See, Anna and Ashley had been trying to get a leprechaun to come to our house for two weeks. They not only wanted one to come to our house, they wanted to catch it. So in the week prior they made lots of rainbows, decorated the doors with shamrocks and St. Patrick's Decor, drew pictures of leprechaun's and hoped and hoped that one would find his way to our house.

And one did.

The morning of St. Patrick's Day we woke up to find our downstairs looking like this:

Leprechaun foot prints across the countertops
St. Patrick's Day Decor (At this point Anna screams, "I can't believe he came!!! We must have done something really right to get him here!!!" Oh the magic :))

And footprints on the potty filled with green pee. They thought this was hilarious! Ashley saw the shamrock glitter on the floor and said, "this must be his powers!!!!!" It was an ultimate crack up how much these girls got into it.

After checking out everything the leprechaun had done to our house, they come running in saying, "He came. He really came. He is here. He is in this house. Mommy we NEED to catch him!"

The chase was on.....

During breakfast the excitement was at an all time high. I don't think they ate more then a bite or two because they found a note left behind that said, "Find 8 shamrocks."  So of course they HAD to go on a shamrock hunt (which they hid and repeated probably 6 times throughout the day for one another).

As the shamrock hunt came to an end, Grama and Kate had arrived. And just in time to get a mouthful of leprechaun magic talk from the girls. And then the three cousins set to work trying to catch the leprechaun.

They gathered materials big enough to make a cage....
Made signs for the doors and traps....

Made a path of money (because leprechauns like gold mommy) and shamrock glitter from the front door to the bathroom where the cage (with strawberries, grapes and more money) was....

And up the sink (with lots of tape) to a sink full of water to trap him. They said they taped the money so that it would take the leprechaun more time to collect the money which would give them more time to catch him.

This took them over an hour. And it was an intense and serious hour of planning and implementation!!!

Then we found a note saying, "Outside. 10 leprechaun rocks."

I told the girls I had never heard of leprechaun rocks before so we goggled what to do with them. We were supposed to put them in vinegar and they would possibly reveal treasure. So we did. And they were amazed at all the bubbles and fizz they made!!!!! And an added bonus- each rock had a nickel in it and they thought that was pretty cool :)

As Kate and Anna continued to set traps and attempt to lure the leprechaun back, Abby and Ashley made St. Patrick's Day Play Dough with me.
At that point we noticed we had had a visitor. The fruit was gone, the chair was moved, the cage was down and the money was gone. But no leprechaun.

He did leave the girls a shamrock cookie :)

Then we went back to crafting (Abby and Ashley) and back to leprechaun hunting (Anna and Kate). I am telling you Anna and Kate spent hours on this little guy. Hours.

We made colored rice and played in the play dough.

Then we had a St. Patrick's day lunch while watching the KC St Patrick's Day Parade!

And then went back to trying to catch the leprechaun. This time with only panties on (Anna).
Then we did some shamrock crafts. I took probably close to 50 pictures of Abby finger painting because her reactions were priceless. It seems as though I did more with the older two at her age then with her when it comes to artwork. He didn't like it at first and then I think she liked it. She didn't cry and she painted so I think she liked it as much as a kid who doesn't like her hands messy would! But she was hilarious!

The big girls did a shamrock look and find.

The leprechaun visited again. This time leaving rainbow skittles!
Abby insisted that Grama put her to bed.
The big girls and I made puffy paint. It was hilarious.

Had a snack of "rainbow" popcorn. It looked so pretty to me so I just had to take a pic!!!
Dyed noodles green and made necklaces for everyone to wear at the St. Patrick's Day dinner that night.

And the leprechaun visited again; this time bringing pencils. The girls were convinced that I did the pencils since they saw them in my drawer before. I had never seen the pencils before and told them the leprechaun must have hidden them there in the drawer while he ran around the house. They finally believed me :)

The pencils came with a note, "Miss Me. Miss Me. Now you have to Kiss me. BYE!!!" Looks like the leprechaun managed to leave without getting caught. The girls were bummed but said, "He'll come back next year. We'll get him then!!!"
So then we concentrated on dinner. The Hortons, Gigi, Grammy and Poppy joined us for a last minute dinner; Anna had decided that morning that the leprechaun wanted us to have a dinner party and that is why he decorated the dinner table. Of course I said yes to the dinner party :) The kids had green noodles they had dyed and we had the corned beef and cabbage. YUM. And for dessert we had some lime drink I found on pinterest.

Matching St Patrick's Day shirts we got a couple years ago for $3 each at the outlets in Destin. I wear it every year  and so do they :)
My Little Leprechaun!!!!

What an awesomely fun St. Patrick's Day!
