Thanks Poppy!

For weeks now Anna has been talking about how Poppy taught her to tie shoes but never brought a shoe to me to prove it. Well, this past Friday while at Grama's house she looks at us and says "I can tie shoes." I say, "sure you can."

And needless to say, this happened.....

She can't wait for tie shoes of her own :) And she thinks she is a pretty big deal :)

Anna's in Apprentice Dance Troupe!

We received the call from Ms Marilyn last night inviting Anna to join the apprentice dance troupe. She continued saying she'd be honored to work the next year with Miss Anna for 1 1/2 hours weekly in ballet, jazz and tap if Anna was still interested. I told Ms Marilyn that Anna hasn't stopped dancing since the try out and that I am pretty sure she'd love to. I then told her that I would ask in the morning to double check. Well guess what? In the morning we got a pretty excited "Yes!" from Anna. And then she ran into her room, got her ballet bag and ballet shoes on and danced around the house.

I feel really comfortable in this decision to let her dance as a troupe member. Sure she will be dancing year round, double the amount she's used to but with attending half day kindergarten it is the perfect year to attempt something like this. She will learn all three aspects of dance from an amazing woman (30 minutes a week devoted to each). Ms. Marilyn reinforced that she sees such great potential in Anna as a dancer and feels that she will thrive in troupe. She told us that if Anna ever says that dancing isn't fun or that she doesn't want to go to practice then we need to talk with Ms. Marilyn. She said her goal of troupe isn't to win competitions (which would be nice) but to share her love of dance with young ladies who love to dance. When it becomes not fun it is a problem to Ms. Marilyn as well.

Anna starts in 9 days :) We will see how it goes; which I am pretty confident will go just fine :) Proud of you for having fun doing what you love to do Anna :)

Troupe Tryouts

Today Anna tried out for BV Rec's Dance Troupe. It is an invite only opportunity and you have to go through an hour of tryouts before finding out if you made the troupe a week later.

Well.... she was excited...... (leg pop, pose and all!)

And mommy was a bit nervous. Not nervous in a way that if she doesn't make it I'd be upset (because if she doesn't make it no big deal she will just dance in the classes she's been dancing in) but in a way of I better not say something to put pressure on her and make her nervous. See, I don't want Anna to feel pressure in her activities yet. I want her to continue to do something because she has fun and loves doing it. But if she is hand picked for an opportunity to challenge herself more in the area of anything I will definitely let her do it if she wants to. She simply thought she was going to go to an hour of dance with a different group of girls to learn a quick little routine; she was stoked!!! Little did she know she would be judged....

OR at least I hope she didn't figure that out when she got assigned a number and was asked to wear it during the try outs while sitting in a room full of at least 40 girls and their moms......

......Yes, she was baffled about the numbers. I told her that since so many girls would be in the room that there may be more then one Anna so it's just easier then numbers. And also the other teachers don't know her name so a number is easier to see and say. She seemed to buy into that and didn't pick up anything else...... So overall I think I handled it well. Before she went into the room I gave her a kissing hand and I reminded her that the most important thing was to have fun. And listen to Ms Marilyn :)

After she was done she came out the door smiling. The first thing I asked was, "Did you have fun?" And what do you think she said!?!?! "Oh my gosh mommy, YES!!!! We learned a new routine and I knew some of the moves from my girly girl routine........" I gave her a hug, threw away that number (we made one at home for the pictures above:) )and walked out the door. Make the team or not, my girl still LOVES to dance!!!!!!

In the car I told her I was proud of her for doing such a good job. She says back, "Yea I did a REALLY good job. A REALLY good job mommy. Wait, how did you know how I did, the blinds were closed?"  I just winked. My girl definitely isn't lacking in self confidence these days :)

PS The leg popping and her poses are killing me these days! I have nothing to do with these poses.... she picks them herself :)

Abby qualified

This morning two ladies from Infant Toddler Services of Johnson County came to our house to evaluate Abby on her speech and her twisting of her hips while running. And I am so glad we made the call.

She qualified!!!!

They were two of the nicest ladies (I have no reason to think they wouldn't be) and spent over an hour talking with me and getting to know Abby. At the end of the time they decided that she definitely qualified for speech; they said she is exhibiting the language of a 16-18 month old but shows the cognitive understanding of language of that of a 2 1/2 year old. Which completely baffles them. They say there is something in the way of Abby being able to form and use words. They said they are excited to start working with our family because we seem like people who will really use the techniques they teach us to help Abby. They meet as a team next week to discuss out caseload and assign a speech teacher to us who will visit us on a weekly basis. It will be nice having the service come to us!!!!

As for the gross motor issue of twisting the hips while running (which usually results in her falling), they said they were going to send a physical therapist out to meet us at BV Rec open gym one day soon to watch her in her action. They didn't get a good view of her problem at the house but said the twisting is something to look into. Until they head back from a PT they encouraged us to have her walk up the stairs holding onto the bannisters all the time (she usually asks to be carried and being the 3rd we are usually in a hurry and carry her up and down) and also for us to get a piece of wood and have her walk it like a balance beam. We will see how she does with these two things. They also said we can have access to a PT whenever we want to schedule access. This was a nice thing to hear.

So overall I am very pleased! They were shocked at how happy Abby is and how she never appears frustrated with her speech (she has never shown frustration) and were amazed at how the child communicate through very little words, eye contact, eye expressions, facial expressions, grunts, hand motions and body language. They were amazed but at the same time baffled at what was going on. They kept saying "anytime she's going to start talking in sentences" but I've been saying this for months now :) And I guess she is talking in sentences; grunting ones :)

So it will be interesting to help another one through speech; this time for different reasons :) I just hope this experience is as good as Anna's :)

Ger on the Stilley Bus!

ALL ABOARD!!!!!!!!

Anna's PreSchool Book Starring ANNA!!!

Anna's teachers put together a book with samples of her artwork throughout the year. They also included little "interviews" about certain topics through the year in it. It is pretty cute to look through and Ana loves it. They even included an envelope of some pictures of Anna with her friends. We are sure going to miss Ms. Hawk and Ms. Cronin!!!

Anna's first crush....

Since January Anna has taken notice of boys; like in a girly way. Like in a goofy I get so excited to see him but can't talk to him way. She started talking about this one boy, Barrett, around Spring Break time. She has even requested a play date (which I have to schedule soon). And apparently she's been hiding love letters in one of her his backpack.

Yes, you read that right, my daughter has been writing love letters.

14 to be exact. Yes. 14. (Confirmed by his mother who found them all in the bottom of his backpack when cleaning it out for the end of the year). When his mom asked him about the letters he says, "I don't know about them mom. She just likes to write me letters and stuff them in my backpack." And then he gave his mom the biggest smile :)

When I asked Anna about Barrett (that's his name) she says he is her most "favorite boy because he's the nicest and I could marry him mommy." She also says, "Ambriella writes them to Cash and he just throws them away. Barrett smiles at me when I write them to him."

Oh geez. Help!!!

So here is a picture of Barrett. He does just happen to be the nicest, sweetest, smartest boy in her class. Phew :)
