STL zoo

The main reason we spent the night in STL on the way to Nashville was for a break in the driving. the other was for their zoo. We had never been so we we very excited.... especially for the penguins! Well it turns out that not only did we choose to go to a free zoo on a crowded Saturday of Memorial weekend but it was also hot, which made the end pretty miserable. And I mean hot.... teetering on the 100 degree mark. The girls did well but WOW we were ready to go 2 hours after we got there. The best part... PENGUINS, the monkeys and the flamingos!!

Kisses for the penguins! We kept saying "onk onk onk" to try and talk with them!

The "mingos!"
the monkeys! Eating an apple, just like the gorilla!
SHADE!!!!
At the end, hot and exhausted and in NO mood for a picture!!
We can't wait to go back to see what we didn't get to see on this trip and to revisit the penguins.

Jenny

Breakfast at Forrest park STL

I had brought along food for a picnic breakfast when we were in STL and Rob was very excited to take us to Forrest Park. We found some shade (which was hard to do at this park because there was some event setting up in the shaded area) and had our picnic breakfast. It was much better then one from McDonalds!

We love our bananas!!!
Muffins almost as big as your face. the girls liked the muffin tops; can't blame them!

Can you believe they have black birdies in STL? Well we spent most of our time during breakfast shooing them and chasing them away.
The view from our picnic
Ashley loves feeding others. It is so cute because she opens her mouth to show you to open your mouth. Makes me smile!
It has been a long time since we have taken a picture of all Daddy's girls and this one turned out just fine!

We love our picnics and this one was no different!

Much Love,
Jenny

Trip overview

The easiest way to post about our family vacation is to give you a quick overview and then go into details with pictures about certain events (ok, almost all the events) on later posts.

Friday: Left KC after work and stayed the night at a Motel 6 (living the high life!!!) in STL.

Saturday: In the morning we went to Forest Park for a picnic breakfast and to the STL zoo and then headed to Nashville in the afternoon. We got to Rob's friend Perry's house in Nashville around 7ish; just in time for the girls bedtime.

Sunday: In the morning we spent hours at the neighborhood pool and had a picnic lunch there. After naps Anna went creek stomping with the boys. That evening we played outside with tons of water, chalk and paint and had a nice dinner. After the kids went to sleep, Katie's parents were more then willing to watch over the pad while the kids slept, we ventured out and ate at a little hole in the wall taco place and had beers. It was great to get out, just us adults and have catch up time between Rob and them and get to know you time for me and them.

Monday: Memorial Day. In the morning we went into Nashville to Daddy's favorite breakfast spot for sweet potato pancakes at the Pancake Pantry. We then walked through the Vanderbilt campus. We ended the morning at a new water spray park (like crown center fountains) and then had lunch at Chick-fil-a. After naps we played, played and played outside and had a nice memorial day crab leg fest. And that evening after the kids went down we went out to eat at another Nashville goodie.

Tuesday: Headed out in the early morning to Burgess National Park (about an hour east of Nashville). We got a little lost on the way and when we finally got there we heard thunder so we didn't make it to the HUGE waterfall. But we did do some walking in the creek, playing on the playground and had a nice picnic lunch. Then we continued on our way to Fall Creek Falls. That evening we hung out around our cabin and went to a "rock beach" to throw rocks and get our feet wet. For dinner, the grill :)

Wednesday: In the morning we did the major hike to the waterfall of Fall Creek Falls and then had a picnic lunch. After two girls took 2 VERY long naps and mom and dad dorked out playing Civilization 5, we went out to Pitney Falls overlook and walked across the suspension Bridge to scout out a place for the morning.

Thursday: In the morning we went back to suspension bridge at Piney Falls and walked to the perfect creek stomping area. Little did we know that we were playing at the top of Piney Falls!!!! Then we headed to the nature center and the Cascade waterfalls. After another day of 2 long naps we went to the main lodging area to play on their playground.

Friday: We loaded the car and left for STL at 8 am. We made it to St Louis at 5:15 for a quick dinner with my girlfriend Emily and her husband Mike.

Saturday: Left the Hilton when we woke up, had McDonald's breakfast in the car and made it back to KC around 1.... after MANY potty breaks! More on those later!

Can't wait to post pics!

Jenny

Aunt Laura

This past weekend for Aunt Laura's birthday Anna and Ashley drew a card for her. While drawing Anna decided to draw a picture of Aunt Laura. She had not drawn a person for me in a long time (and when she did the person had dot eyes, round face and a mouth) so when she drew this, I was shocked.....

Head, eyes, nose, mouth, hair, arms and legs! Looks just like Aunt Laura too :)

Way to go my Anna banana!

Much love, Jenny
PS Aunt Laura said it is normal development for kids to draw one part of a person per year of life so she said it was pretty good that Anna was drawing 6 parts at 2 1/2!

Alive and well

My girlfriend Ashley called me yesterday because she was worried about my safety. She knew we were supposed to get back into town Saturday so she was expecting my MASS of blog updates within days. Well she gave me three days to get those done and when she saw no updates she literally thought I had gotten eaten by a bear in the Tennessee wilderness; her way of calling me a super slacker (just kidding ash!) So here I am, super slacker, letting everyone know we are alive, safe and well living back at my parents house. We had a fantastic time, believe me tons of updates will someday appear on the blog, but from the time we got back home Saturday we have been tired, busy, sick, tired and busy! Saturday night I wore myself into exhaustion hanging out with two of my best friends until 1 am.... Yes, 1 am. Sunday morning and early afternoon was spent at my in laws celebrating my sister in laws birthday and that evening was spent teaching my dad how to conquer the world in the game civilization 5, total nerd school! And then the next night was plagued with a puking Anna puking right when we put her to bed and at 11 pm which sent me sleeping with her the rest of the night since she was terrified to do so herself. She was pretty sure she was going to spit "out" all night. Bless her heart, nothing is worse then a sick kid... So needless to say I pretty much went sleepless Monday night because Anna is the worst little thing to sleep with. I probably got 5 rib jabs, 8 jaw kicks, lots of snuggles (which I'm not complaining one bit about), and pushed off the bed 3 times. She is such a roly poly who was wide awake at 6 am smiling her little smile at me saying "mommy you sep with me! Me not throw out, me belly feel bedder!" This made those sleepless 6 hours not as painful. I was a slug the next day who didn't mind the hours of tv watching with sick little Anna while thinking Ashley was a ticking time bomb ready to puke all over everything at any minute. Luckily, she has not. At least she has not Yet. Fingers crossed! Hopefully Anna just had something disagree with her belly and that she wasn't sick. She didn't have a fever or any other sign of sickness and her and Ashley have been kissing like crazy and playing closely so I was pretty much 100 percent certain ashley was going to it sick; it was just a matter of time. We will see........ So when bed time rolled around on Tuesday, after a couple runs of conquering the world with my dad, I went to bed at 9. And here I am, at 9:30 after a walmart run to pick out stuff for outside at our new house, updating the blog. I know everyone can sleep well tonight knowing that I wasn't eaten by a bear!!! Much love, Jenny Ps. We were originally supposed to close on our house today. 5 days until we close, 12 days until we get possession (we are renting to the previous owners for a week while the improvements on their new house get finished, which by the way scored us everything getting repaired on our work request and scored us free professional carpet cleaning!)
