In search of the best wiener

Inspired by the Sonic commercial featuring all the AMAZING hot dog toppings, my family decided to host the First Annual Memorial Day Weekend "In Search of the Best Wiener" Hot Dog Topping Contest. A page full of rules later (believe me MANY tweeks were made to the official "rule" page before the event started and even as it was starting) we all gathered this past Sunday to indulge in some tasty treats- and boy were they good!!!!

Dad's sausage and hotdog sampling platter. We all now have many of these in our freezer!

It was seriously was too much fun. Everyone came up with awesome ideas for topping their hot dogs and the kitchen was an absolute disaster! Rob decided to make the "Doglet" which had scrambled eggs, garlic, bacon, cheese, peppers and onion on it. He thought it was by far the best dog (but unfortunately our opinion of our own dog didn't count towards the awards). I made a "Chihuahua" hotdog skilleted with 2 strips of bacon, 1/4 of an avocado and cream cheese. TOTALLY YUM! Anna made a "MAC DOGGY" macaroni and cheese topped with crumbled Doritos hotdog (it was also yummy) and Ashley made a HUGE pig in a blanket with cheese and named it "Papoose" because it looked like her when she is all swaddled.

Each person got to vote for their Top 3 hot dogs, in addition to several other awards. The awards went to:

Best Buns: Ashley
Best Name: Meghan
Best Looking: Todd
Best Presentation: Anne

and you won't believe it- I couldn't...... the first ever FIRST PLACE CHAMPION: ME!!!!!!!

I was ecstatic! I was the emcee for the award ceremony and I also passed out the awards so I had to ask Todd to do the honors in presenting me with my award. I still smile at all the glory of that one fine moment!!!!!

I still can't believe I won :)

Since we were already splurging on trying 13 hotdogs, we decided to also add a deep fry appetizer competition and WOW was that amazing! I had never really deep fried anything on my own and had so much fun! We decided to deep fry pickles and artichokes. Others added mushrooms, onion rings, cheese balls and cheese sticks to the list. Rob tied for the "Best Fry" award with his artichoke entry- YUM YUM YUM! I think I might need to borrow the fry daddy about once a year to satisfy these yummy cravings again!

At the end of the night we were too full to fry the oreos and snickers- we'll just save those for another party!

The kids were so well behaved while us adults were running around like crazy preparing our dogs. We are so fortunate to have such good kids! They too has a blast sampling the dogs!

Deanna Rose with Fimmen Cousins

Last Friday ALL the Fimmen cousins met at Deanna Rose. Grandma and Papa joined us too and so did Aunt Carolyn and Uncle Todd. We had so much fun. We were able to play on the playground and swing, run around, feed the goats and fish and enjoy lots of good snacks! We got kicked out after being there for about 2 hours because a storm was rolling in. Believe it or not, May 27th and we were in sweatshirts!!!

We can't wait to go back again!

I love it when mommy does her make-up!

Mommy can't believe how girly-girl I am and how much I love to try and put on her makeup when she does. She also laughs at how I love to wear around my dress up high heel shoes... she says those things are for 20 year olds- not 20 month olds!!!!!! 

 

I just LOVE blush.... but the mascara frustrates me!!!!

Starting to like books!

I have just started paying attention to books and love to be read to! Sometimes I get read to alone by daddy or mommy and sometimes Anna and I get read to together. I really like looking at the pictures! I also love the books that mommy and daddy put on my play gym around me when I'm doing tummy time... I try to scoot to touch them!

Strawberry Update

In addition to all that good stuff that I blogged before about making, I have since made the following
1. 7 mini loaves of strawberry bread
2. another batch of jam
3. strawberry shortcake
4. the best EVER tasting strawberry pie that we have both ever had! it was AWE-SOME!!!!!

The patch is slowing down, so I don't know how many more strawberry goodies I will be making. But if the pie was the last of the year, we TOTALLY ended with a BANG!

Sucker

If I am not sleeping, I am pretty much sucking on something! I love to suck on my pacifier and fingers so much! If I don't have a pacifier in my mouth, I love to suck 2 of my fingers; sometimes my fist if I can fit it all in there!

Rolling on side

Look what I did yesterday! Yep- I rolled from my back to my side SO MANY times!!!! Pretty much whenever mommy would lay me on my back I would roll to my side! It made watching everyone and everything so much easier being on my side.

Watch out world- I am going to be a rolly polly as soon as I figure out how to roll all the way over!
